PFW Fall/Winter 2022-2023 has just finished. I came back home last night and decided to write this article for you while I am still all excited about what I saw in Paris. I must say that PFW Fall/Winter 2022-2023 had been a lot like fashion weeks before the Covid. There have been a lot of physical fashion shows, presentations. Influencers, journalists and insiders came from all over the world to sit on the front raws and shine outside of the venues. The city was buzzing. The atmosphere was wonderful. There were still some accents about the recent was in Ukraine, but it was not as visible as in Milan.
Paris is always the last point of worldwide trends weeks. The city of light, romance and fashion has shown its glamour once again. All significant Parisian designers introduced us to the fall-winter season 2022-2023 best trends, fashion and beauty. They showed beautiful fashion shows that will be an inspiration for many.
Please scroll down to see my highlights and takeaways from PFW FW 2022-2023.
Tiffany Brown during PFW Fall/Winter 2022-23
Tiffany Brown – Atlanta based designer who is specializing in men’s and women’s clothing has just showcased her collation in Paris. For her, it was the third fashion show in Paris. Tiffany Brown presented the collection that celebrates women. She showed us different looks in all shades of brown. There are dresses, skirts, jackets, blazers for casual looks but also more elegant and classic. Very feminine, chic and sexy. There were also effortless propositions for men, also based on the same style as the ready-to-wear women’s garments.
Sheltersuits at Palais de Tokyo
Sheltersuits is not only a fashion brand but also a movement and a Sheltersuit Foundation.
We choose to act. We’re bringing people a new choice to purchase with a purpose. To support people experiencing homelessness.
They are creating high-quality products that people can buy and offer garments to the homeless around us. They are a fully sustainable brand that works with a headstock from luxury producers and upcycle it. Their clothing is durable, bold can be used in many ways and protect the homeless from the cold, rain, snow and more. To give them the comfort that they need and add some positivity to their daily lives. Every purchase is also supporting the Sheltersuit Foundation that is supporting homeless people. It’s a unique and bold concept and I enjoyed it a lot to get to know it.
Jessica Jane Fashion Show at Ritz Paris
Jessica Jane is a South African brand created by Jessica Molebatsi. She is currently one of the top fashion brands in South Africa, dressing many South African women and celebrities. Her fashion show was my favourite during Fashion Week-Studio at Ritz Paris and I was very impressed with all designs. Jessica Jane presented a collection based on beige, white and black colours. Read-to-wear pieces but also beautiful dresses for a special occasion. She is using a special pattern on the fabric that is unique to the brand and you can find even tote bags made with this fabric.
“Love Brings Love” the fashion show and exhibition in homage to Alber Elbaz at the Palais Galliera
“Love brings love` was the fashion show and exhibition at Palais Galliera. On October 5, AZ Factory presented an exclusive show in memory of fashion designer Alber Elbaz, A designer who died on April 24, 2021. The best fashion designers had gathered on the square of the Carreau du Temple during Paris Fashion Week. All 46 silhouettes created for this very special tribute Fashion show are now exhibited at the Palais Galliera. The silhouettes, in alphabetical order, walked to the rhythm of the mantra Love Brings Love, a formula dear to this great designer.
We could see designs created by: Valentino, Versace, Balmain, Louis Vuitton and more.
Iann Dey During PFW FW 2022-2023
Iann Dey is a Mexican brand based in León. They presented their collection in a beautiful space of The Passage Jouffroy from 1845. An elegant and wildly decorated venue created the perfect canvas for this fashion show. Designers presented stunning gowns for galas and weddings too. Laces, details, volumes were the central stage of this show. And details are the protagonist of each of Iann Dey’s designs, and they say:
“The imagination and immense passion for fashion are inexhaustible.”
BLUETAMBURIN presented their collection called: The Fairy Tales of BLUETAMBURIN. It was a truly unique fashion show. All designs were making me think of Bridgerton’s inspiration. The clothes looked like from the movie set based in the past. They had beautiful details and created a truly unique experience for all spectators. Bluetamburin is a brand from South Corea created by designer Bo-min Kim, who has already presented her collection during NYFW.
The Best of Indonesian Talent at PFW FW 2022-2023
This unforgettable fashion show was organized by Fashion Division. They represented emerging talents from Southeast Asian brands. The show was held at the prestigious Westin Paris at place Vendöme. The show exhibited collections by 12 brands, along with students from 3 Indonesian fashion universities. The brands include Harry Halim, a celebrity favourite, but also AKSU, PURANA x Amero, VAR ERTE, Carol Chen and more.
HarryHalim brand is already established and loved by celebrities. Cardi B, Billy Porter and Tinashe have been seen wearing his designs. He is known as a fashion designer with a distinctive voice on a global stage. His style is bold, eccentric and has a twisted take on romanticism. HARRYHALIM debuted by showing its 2012 Spring-Summer collection at Paris Fashion Week and since then he is well-established in France.
Carol Chen is a Singapour based designer that is already well-established. She has won different fashion awards and also was seen in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and more. During PFW FW 2022-2023 she has presented a collection called: Neoterica. This name derives from the ancient Greek word neoterikos, which means new or young. It was influenced by Singapore’s modernity, inclusive culture, and architecture. Her collection is a redefinition of glamour, beautiful dresses, with contrasts and volumes were presented with very futuristic sunglasses and created edgy ensembles.
Marine Serre each year creates a collection that is making an impact and the fashion world is talking about. This year after the fashion show spectators could also see a unique exhibition of her designs. Full collection with an exhibition held at Lafayette Anticipations space. The Hard Drive collection compresses the brand’s ethos, story and how they operate. Their savoir-faire, production of the designs is disclosed through an exhibition. Serre also presents all the models from the new collection beautiful staged in different sceneries. The 3rd floor of the exhibition is her art collection of reinterpreted paintings of the masters.
Regarding her collection, we can find a punk attitude, tartan and houndstooth, chokers and vibrant and bold cuts. Second-skin items and oversized, layers of fabrics. Jewellery made with old cutlery and upcycled t-shirts were used for all different garments. She has proved once again that she is a unique visionary that is making a huge mark in the fashion world.
Marine Serre fashion show that I saw 2 years ago.
BARBARA BUI collection presented during PFW Fall/Winter 2022-2023 was a collection that was so pleasing to look at. By saying that I mean that it brought sophistication, beauty, femininity and elegance. At first, I watched the short fashion film “SHORT CUTS” BY BLANCA LI which gave me an impression of what I will see in the other room. There were a lot of bright colours, animal prints, silver and black. Classic cuts, and ultra-sharp ones were both visible. Volumes and pronounced shoulders made us think of the esthetic of the 70s or 90s. Designs were both masculine and feminine but ideally balanced in order to create clothes that will be comfortable and noticeable.
Balenciaga is without hesitation the most impactful fashion show of this PFW. Mostly because designer Demna Gvasalia was the only designer who truly reacted to the war in Ukraine and show it in the fashion show. He started the show by reciting these words:
“Personally, I have sacrificed too much to war. This past week is bringing back all the memories that my mother and I put away in a box, and never looked at. We never got over it.”
Demna lived in Ukraine after being a refugee from Abkhazia, Georgia in 1993. He understands the horror that Ukrainian people are going through right now and wanted to show solidarity via his fashion show. All the guests have received a t-shirt in yellow and blue to wear during the show. Also, models on the runways brought us the impression of refugees, who run away from something and follow the unknown path. They walk in the snow, rain, despite the weather conditions they keep on going.
Véronique Leroy at PFW Fall/Winter
Véronique Leroy is a Belgian designer who is based in Paris. For this year’s presentation, she designed a collection that is going deeply to her archives and previous lines. However, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything new to see. On the contrary, Véronique created new looks by adding creative twists and proportions. The centre part of the Fall-Winter 2022-2023 collection is wool, specifically Shetland and Harris Tweed. There are a lot of influences from the 80s, especially in the shapes and textures. There are bright colours presented in monochromatic looks or contrasted with black.
As you can see PFW Fall-Winter 2022-2023 for me was full of emotions and many different fashion experiences. From Fashion Shows to presentations. If I would have to choose my favourite event during PFW it would be the “Love Brings Love” exhibition, mostly because under one roof I could see stunning gowns of my favourite designers.
What about you? Which show or presentation was your favourite?
