Located in the hills above Zurich, the Dolder Grand is a 5-star luxury hotel that blends history, art, and modern comfort in a way few others can. Known for its stunning views, world-class dining, and an extensive art collection, it’s a destination that invites you to relax and indulge. My stay here was nothing short of transformative, blending culture, indulgence, and peace in a way few places can achieve. As an art historian by profession and a 5-star hotel lover, I loved the stay so much, but without further ado, let’s find out more about this wonderful hotel.

Where History Meets the Here and Now.
First opened in 1899 as a health resort, The Dolder Grand has long been a retreat for those seeking rest, rejuvenation, and fresh mountain air. Its guest list reads like a who’s who of history—Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, the Rolling Stones, Madonna. The hotel’s legacy is undeniable.

In 2008, the hotel underwent a renovation led by Lord Norman Foster that preserved its historic charm while bringing the space into the modern age. The result is a perfect balance of old-world elegance and sleek, contemporary design that feels both timeless and fresh.

The Dolder Grand: Discover Its Extensive Art Collection and QR Code Experience.
One of the most captivating parts of my stay at The Dolder Grand was its incredible art collection. This isn’t just decoration; the art is part of the hotel’s DNA. Over 100 works by world-renowned artists like Salvador Dalí, Jean Tinguely, and Takashi Murakami are spread throughout the property, and they’re not tucked away in a gallery. You’ll find pieces in unexpected places—along corridors, in lounges, and even near the restaurants.

What made this experience even more engaging was the presence of QR codes next to many of the artworks. By simply scanning the code, I was able to learn more about the artist and the piece right then and there. It was a lovely way to dive deeper into the art and connect with it in a personal way. It felt like I was not just staying in a hotel, but walking through a curated collection, thoughtfully integrated into my environment. I think more hotels should adopt this philosophy. Art is not only for experts, and when people are relaxing, contact with art has an even deeper meaning.

Dining at The Dolder Grand: World-Class Restaurants and Unique Culinary Experiences.
The food at The Dolder Grand is as considered and refined as the rest of the experience. At The Restaurant, Chef Heiko Nieder’s tasting menu is a multi-course masterpiece. Each dish arrives like an unfolding story—surprising, but never overly complicated. It’s the kind of culinary journey that combines creativity with comfort, making it a true sensory delight.

For a more casual experience, Saltz offers a lively atmosphere with bold design and a menu that focuses on regional ingredients. Every dish carries a sense of care and quality, but the vibe remains relaxed. I dined in this restaurant and I enjoyed a lot the menu, the local products used, and the beautiful presentation of the food a lot.
And then there’s Mikuriya, a hidden gem—a tiny, intimate Japanese restaurant that seats just eight guests. Here, the omakase experience is delivered with personal attention and an artful presentation that makes you feel like part of something special.
The Dolder Grand Spa: Relaxation and Wellness with Stunning Views.
The spa at The Dolder Grand is far more than a typical wellness space—it’s an experience in itself. By far, it’s also the top-rated Spa in Switzerland. Spanning over 4,000 square meters, it offers everything from panoramic relaxation lounges and steam baths to one of the most unexpectedly invigorating features: the cold room.

At a crisp 15°C, the cold room is lined with snow and chilled air that hits you like a fresh Alpine gust. Stepping inside after the warmth of a sauna or steam session creates a rush that’s both bracing and strangely addictive. It wakes up every sense, and somehow leaves you feeling lighter, clearer, even a little bolder.
Surrounded by the sound of silence, natural textures, and soft lighting, the spa invites you to slow down. Between the indoor pool and areas designed for quiet reflection, it’s a space where time seems to stretch, just enough to breathe a little deeper.

Why The Dolder Grand is Zurich’s Premier 5-Star Hotel for Luxury and Tranquillity.
The Dolder Grand is all about understated luxury that lingers with you. Whether you’re watching the sunset over Zurich from your balcony, taking in the art that surrounds you, or feeling the rush of cold air in the snow room, every moment here feels curated, intentional, and serene.

For those looking for a rare combination of history, art, luxury, and wellness, The Dolder Grand isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place that invites you to experience something a little different. Something a little timeless. It felt like this to me, and I truly hope it will have the same impact on you.

As always with love
